2020 JOANN Stitch Along Event || Chevron and Entrelac Knit Blanket

Once again I’ve been asked to host the knit version of the JOANN Stitch Along with Yarnspirations. The annual Stitch Along with JOANN is one that many knitters and crocheters look forward to doing. I am super excited and honored to be a part of this event and to teach you this incredibly fun knit blanket.

What is the JOANN Stitch Along

Let’s start at the very beginning. If you aren’t familiar with the term ‘stitch-along’ let me explain it to you.

Most of you might know about a crochet along or a knit along, we have been doing them for a few years with Red Heart. Well, this is a little different in the fact that we have partnered up with both JOANN and Yarnspirations, and they are offering both a knit and crochet version of this project so that we can all work together! Knitters and crocheters alike can join in and participate in this project. In the past I’ve referred to this as a CAL-KAL but I do like the new term stitch along.

A stitch along is a group of people coming together to knit/crochet the same project in the same timeframe. The best part about this stitch along is that there will be video tutorials for both versions each week!

I will only be teaching the knitting version of the JOANN stitch along, but my friend Mikey from the Crochet Crowd is teaching the crochet version. Be sure to check out his post about the stitch along to see which version you like better!

What Are We Making

For our stitch along we will be making a beautiful Chevron and Entrelac Knit Blanket working with a BRAND NEW BERNAT YARN!!! The sample I will be making uses the new Bernat Symphony yarn. But you could use this same pattern and make it with either Bernat Velvet or the new Bernat Freesia; making this 1 project 3 ways! All three yarns are available at JOANN Fabric.

This is a 6 week knit-along hosted by Marly Bird. The crochet along is hosted by Mikey at The Crochet Crowd. The crochet pattern is the Bernat Bobble Textures Crochet Blanket and is very beautiful! Just like its knit cousin, the crochet blanket can be made with any of the 3 yarns as well. Check it out and watch the wonderful videos by Mikey.

Materials Needed for the JOANN Stitch Along

Chevron and Entrelac Knit Blanket Materials
Chevron and Entrelac Knit Blanket Materials

For the Chevron and Entrelac Knit Blanket I will be demonstrating in the videos, you will need the following:

  • Yarn: 7 balls of Bernat Symphony
  • Needles: US 10.5 (6.5mm) circular knitting needles AT LEAST 36″ [91.5cm] long (we use circular needles to accommodate the number of stitches for the blanket)
  • Notions: 9 stitch markers, tapestry needle, tassel maker (optional)

BONUS: There is a fun pillow pattern as well and for that you will need 2 balls of the Bernat Symphony yarn as well.

Are you interested in doing one of the other versions of this blanket? You’re not the only one one 😉 Here is a screenshot of the materials you will need if you want to use one of the other yarns.

❣️Edited To Add❣️

Go to JOANN and pick up one of these yarns (Symphony, Velvet or Freesia) and post a picture of it BEING WORKED WITH on social media using hashtag #1project3ways for a chance to win a prize!!!!

Stitch Along Weekly Video Tutorials

Beginning September 14, 2020, each week of the JOANN Stitch Along we will post the link to the video tutorial here. But you can also just subscribe to the Marly Bird YouTube Channel, click the notification bell, and you will be notified when the videos are released.

Now, for the first time in the history of the JOANN Stitch Along, the full pattern is going to be released. So if you want to binge on the pattern and work ‘ahead of the class’ you can do that.

Also, this year as we work together to make this blanket, Mikey and I will be hosting Facebook Live Q&A’s to help you out in real-time. So you will have as much support as possible to make this really stunning blanket.

Once the videos for the stitch along are released I will add the link below.

Past JOANN Stitch Along Events

Last year was the first year I was the knitting instructor for the stitch along. In 2019, we made a cute blanket using Bernat Blanket yarn. You can get the details about that stitch along here including the downloadable pattern.
