Marly and Linda Permann talk about traditional publishing vs self-published e-books. Listen and learn from Linda’s experience in both worlds. She published two books, Little Crochet and Crochet Adorned, and was approached by the Malabrigo Freelance Pattern Project to do a crochet project. From there Linda considered the option of self-publishing. She tells of her timeline in getting from design to finished product. Her team to help out included Caro Sheridan for photography and Heather Crank for graphic layout.
Her new book Sugar and Spice has six designs were inspired by her love of crocheted texture—and desserts, ranging from simple to ornate. Bubbling cherries swim a cobbler crust, embossed designs adorn an Italian cookie, and glowing beads of sugar dance along the edge of a freshly baked pie. Just like a delicious dessert, a beautiful hat, shawl or sweater will leave you feeling warm and content. You can purchase this e-book on Craftsy or Ravelry!

I loved listening to this podcast, and enjoyed Linda’s interview. I took her class with Craftsy when it first started and made the baby sweater. I’ve since made 4 and they just look better every time. I think that Marly would love pizzelles if she tried one with her coffee for sure. I knew immediately what that was supposed to be on the hat. Great collection of patterns. Hope I win!

I thought I left a comment here earlier, but there’s nothing here. I enjoyed the podcast, and have taken Craftsy classes in crochet from both Marly and Linda. Really liked it. The pizzelle hat is great, and I would love to win the pattern.

Another great podcast. Informative and inspirational. I would love to win Linda’s new book …. so many lovely patterns and that Pizzelle Beret might just be first in the queue. Congratulations to Linda on a wonderful book and thanks, Marly, for the great interview.
Cracking me up pronouncing Pizzelle like Snoop dog would! Linda is my favorite Crochet designer.

This was another great show. The one thing that I did want to know is do designers make money from magazine subscriptions. I know that I purchase books to support the designers I like but a lot of the stuff that I make comes from the magazines that I subscribe to. I can’t wait to get a copy of this book, it will make a great Christmas present. I really do like the Pizzelle Beret, I can’t believe Linda can make such wonderful things out of post stitches! I think that the first project on my list would be the Sugar Sparkles Shawlette. I haven’t done anything with beads yet but I LOVE IT!!! Thanks for the great show and the chance to win!-zima21 on Ralvery

This is a great episode. This would be a great gift for my daughter for Christmas, hopefully she will make me some of these great projects like the Pizzelle Beret!
Do you understand how much I lovelovelove pizzelles?? My Grammy’s neighbor used to bring home made ones to us every year at Christmas time. YUM! Awesome podcast as always and I really hope I win cuz those patterns are AMAZING!!
pizzelle? I hope I don’t get disqualified for spelling lol.
Great show! All the patterns in Linda’s new book are really sweet! (Sorry, but I couldn’t help myself. Pun very much intended.) I have never tried a pizzelle, but I’m sure I’d love it just as I’d love to win this awesome book. If I don’t, I’ll buy one so Linda will have one more toward her 100 needed to start making a profit.

All these designs are so beautiful! LOVE the Pizzelle Beret! I have a beret that I wear All.The.Time! This would be a great addition to my wardrobe!
I was really surprised to see that the pizzelle beret was crochet – I expected it to be knitted!
Wow, those designs are absolutely gorgeous! I am unable to decide which one I’ll make first – the pizzelle, the shrug or the shawlette! And what a fun episode, the two of you had wonderful chemistry!

Great podcast. Love the Pizzelle Beret and the other designs. Love that some of the designs are mistaken for knit designs … I want to learn to knit … just haven’t figured it out yet!
