NOTES

  • Instructions are written for 28 stitches, therefore it is necessary to repeat each row of instructions 3 times to complete 1 full round (28 * 3 = 84 sts).
  • Cut yarn when color is not used again for more than 3 rounds
  • Carry yarn when color is used again in 3 or less rounds.
  • The rounds that use 3 colors can be knit stranding the 3 colors or working duplicate stitch in the 3rd color.

PATTERN Day 1

Cuff

Picot Edge

With smaller circular needles and color A

Cast on 84, join to work in the round. Place marker for start of the round.

Rounds 1-5: Knit

Round 6: *K2tog, yo; repeat from * around.

Rounds 7-11: Knit

Round 12: K2tog the next stitch on LHN and corresponding cast on stitch below.

Drop color A

With colors B and C

Latvian Braid

Round 1: *K1 color B, K1 color C; rep from * around.

This round forms the “base” of your braid. It isn’t visible from the bottom of the braid, but it is the horizontal line of stitches you see in between each round of twists you’re about to create. Traditionally you work the same color on Round 1 as it is worked on Round 2, (color B over color C, color C over color B, etc). Bring both yarns to the front of the work.

Round 2: *P1 color B. Bring color C over color B (twisting yarns), P1 color C. Bring color B over color C (twisting yarns); repeat from * around.

Reminder: Do not take the time here to untwist the yarns. They will become untwisted on Round 3 when you switch the direction of twist.

Round 3: *P1 color B, bring color C under color B (twisting yarns), P1 color C, bring color B under color B (twisting yarns); rep from * around.

If done correctly, once you have worked every stitch in the round, your two yarns will become totally untwisted, ready to work in whatever patterning is called for on subsequent rounds.

Drop colors B and C.

With color A

Next Round: Knit around.

Change to larger needles

LEG

Continue in stockinette pattern following the leg colorwork chart for Rounds 1-58.

Cut all colors.
