Amanda Perkins:
I am Amanda Perkins and I am an obsessive crochet designer and author. I live and work in a tiny village high on a sea cliff on Exmoor, Devon UK. Most of my inspiration comes from the colors and shapes of the landscape I live in.
My Granny taught me to crochet at a very young age. I ran an indie dyeing company (The Natural Dye Studio) for 13 years, I started designing because I needed pattern support for my yarn.
I designed a few knitting patterns, but they weren’t very good, so I started designing crochet patterns instead because I like crochet and find it a lot easier than knitting.
Eventually my yarn became yarn support for my patterns. I closed NDS in 2015 to concentrate on my designing career and to finish writing my first book Rainbow Crocheted Blankets/Afghans (which was published in the autumn of 2016).
I self-publish all my patterns on-line in all the normal places – Etsy, Ravelry, Craftsy etc.
I live with my husband and 2 dogs and a cat, although sadly one of the dogs and cat are very old and probably won’t be with us much longer.
My daughter, her husband and our newborn grandson live in the same village and so I spend a lot of time with them.
I also love gardening and have recently moved to a house with a very overgrown steep hillside garden, getting it under control is a huge challenge, but I am enjoying every second of it.

So enjoyed the Marly Bird Podcast featuring Queenie Amanda Perkins. While listening to this podcast I checked out her Ravelry page. Absolutely gorgeous blankets! And I’ve never crocheted a blanket using fingering weight yarn but I am truly inspired to do that soon. I’m usually drawn to the geometric look and to purple, so the Knot Garden will likely be my first venture into her patterns.
Gayla Reinkens says:
Hi Queenie Amanda. I enjoyed you on the Marly Bird Podcast immensely today. I checked out your Ravelry page, you have some gorgeous designs. I am torn between the Knot Garden and the Rose Window. Ok, partial to purple so Knot Garden it would be first. I love your Rainbow Blanket book! Hopefully you will be on the Marly podcast again soon!
