Unexpected Afghans by Robyn Chachula is a book full of BEAUTIFUL designs by many of the top designers in the industry. This is a truly unique home decor book from Interweave. It is truly a step above the rest and showcases incredible designs and skill.
Robyn joins me to talk about the book and some of the great designs. Some designers were given a specific project request. Could Drew do a cabled afghan? Would Doris Chan do a giant doily for an afghan? Having an original creative design from each designer is so impressive!
There are 5 different chapters in the book: Lace, Granny Squares, Cables, Colorwork and Tunisian. Helpful tips will allow for even beginners to get their feet wet with each technique. This book has something for crocheters of all abilities!
Marly’s afghan in the book is the “Damask Afghan”, which is also the biggest project in the book. There are three panels each with a lace section. It is a giant project, but you work on one panel at a time, so you are not carrying a massive project around with you! Click here to see the all the designs on Ravelry, including Megan Granholm’s “Starburst Entrelac” , Linda Permann’s “Dots and Poppies”, Kristin Omdahl’s “Sunken Treasure Blanket”, and Drew Emborsky’s “Artesia Zigzag”.

Starburst! Would love to win this book! Love both of you and your work!
Megan’s Starburst Entrelac Afghan is gorgeous. There are several aghans in this book I can see myself making.
love the show.and love to eat starbust..
Starburst candy and carpeting don’t mix. Thanks for reminding me!!
enjoyed the show!!
Only wish I had speakers so I could HEAR the podcast. Because then I wouldn’t have to wonder if Starbust is the word! 😀
Starburst! Your afghan is my favorite in the book:) What a great collection of patterns.
I quite like Starbursts the candy and the afghan. Great show Marly!!
Great episode! That Starburst really is beautiful! This book is at the top of my wishlist.
I am a newbie crocheter(sp?). I would love to use your book to grow with. It can take me from beginner to advanced! Go Starburst! Thank you, Diana
Just got a chance to listen to this podcast and loved it. Adore Robyn almost as much as you and Kristin. Also my mother was well known in my hometown in NE for her quilts and the Starburst Enterlac and the Desert Sunrise afghans remind me so much of her. Wished I had time to work on one or the other.
Enjoyed reconnecting with the Yarnthing podcast! The Starburst afghan and other sound fantastic. Typing with crossed fingers
Great show! The afghans in Unexpected Afghans are beautiful. I love that the Starburst afghan is based on a quilt pattern–such gorgeous colors!
I loved that book, it’s starburst of colors and great ideas
Starburst! That’s a tricky word to work into a comment.
Well, I could eat a lot of Starbursts while sitting down to make a full-sized afghan. I have a few nieces and nephews that are engaged or newly married, and it would be fun to use the patterns from Robin’s book to make something special for them. I do really like the Starburst pattern, I would loved to challenge myself to make it.
Starburst! Good for eating and afghans!
The Starburst entrelac aghan is amazing! It looks so much like the traditional quilt. I have to try this pattern just to see how it works. Enjoyed the podcast and it’s obvious the two of you did too!
I can’t wait to get this book. I want to do the Starburst afghan first!
This book looks fantastic, I would love to win a copy. Starburst!
Is it too late to eat some starburst and make an afghan?
Hope the contest isn’t closed! I love the Starburst afghan as well as several of the others.
I love your infectious laugh and hope to meet you in person someday. I love starburst too!
I just finished making 3 afghans in 3 weeks, and always enjoy afghan pattern books. This one looks fabulous – I will need to get my hand on it! Starburst!
Starburst, the juicy contradiction. 🙂
Seriously, Robyn & friends, this book is amazing.
