PATTERN NOTES

The project sizing is accomplished by your hook gauge.  If you would like a S-XL size, use the smaller hook and smaller gauge.  If you would like a 2X-3X size, use the larger hook and larger gauge.

The gauge is blocked, the fabric of the project stretches quite a bit!  Dimension for each section is given to check your progress. Without giving too much away, a project that is slightly bigger than the schematic size will still fit fine; but a project significantly larger will not work (and you will run out of yarn).  If an unblocked project is measuring over 1” bigger at the end of Section 1, you probably will want to rip and re-crochet with a smaller hook.

You get to decide when to change colors in the pattern.  You can decide to use all one color, or change after each section, or change when noted in the pattern.  Use color changes as suggestions for when to change color, but you choose what color to use. To help with color placement, you can color in your own choices on the color key and see some examples of 2 and 5 color projects.

The project is broken down into sections.  Each one will have a different stitch pattern.  Please keep an eye out for when to TURN and when NOT TO TURN.  It is done to present the prettiest side of the fabric in each section, but can be easy to miss.

4PM PLAYS ????

*I know some of you don’t like to block but trust me, this is an important step to the process. Dry time will vary depending on environment but make sure the piece is completely dry before moving to this step.*

At this point you can tell from the schematic that this piece could be a shawl. If you want to keep it as a shawl then follow OPTION 1 for the next two plays.

If you want to make it into something a little different than a shawl then follow OPTION 2 for the next two plays.

OPTION 1:

Shawl Edging

Row 1 (RS): Join B with sl st to first sc on Row 11, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, [ch 2, skip 3 sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc] repeat across to marker (place marker in ch-1 sp just made), ch 1, skip 2 sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc, ch 1, skip 2 sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (place marker in ch-1 sp just made), [ch 2, skip 3 sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc] repeat across to last 4 sts, ch 2, skip 3 sc, 2 dc in last sc, Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first dc, *ch 2, skip ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to marker (place marker in ch-1 sp just made), ch 2, skip next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, skip next ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp (place marker in ch-1 sp just made), repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, ch 2, skip last ch-2 sp, 2 dc in top of beg ch. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first dc, *ch 3, skip ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, ch 3, skip last ch-2 sp, 2 dc in top of beg ch. Move markers up to ch-1 sp on Row just made. Turn.

*chart for this section will be provided in the 6pm hour*

OPTION 2:

Joining Sides

With RS together, pin outside corner to start of project (match A to A and B to B on the schematic from play 3pm).  Whipstitch together until arm opening measures 12-14 inches, depending on your preference. Repeat on opposite side. Try on project and either seam more or less depending on the fit for yourself.

*chart for this section will be provided in the 6pm hour*

NEXT PLAY @ 5pm!
