Things are moving right along and it is time to step-it-up a bit with Turkey Trot with Marly Bird 2019 Knitting Clue #2. There are a lot of things to think about before you start knitting so be sure to read everything below!
What you should know
Of course this is a Mystery Make Along project (if you want to know more you can click the link) so I am assuming that you have faith in me and my design ability and that is why you are following along. So, thank you for that. ????
Because I know there are some sizing decisions that will need to be made along the way I will be sure to mention little extras in the pattern I think you should know before proceeding. That way, you are not totally blind to the design.
For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #2 I think you should know there are still only two sizes to choose from, but there is a shorter (petite) option for the largest size.
- If you typically wear a S, M, or L then you should follow the instructions for the S-L size. This is the first number outside the parentheses.
- If you typically wear an XL, 2XL, or 3XL then you should follow the instructions for the XL-3XL size. This is the first number inside the parentheses.
- If you are making the XL-3XL size but need a shorter (petite) option be sure to follow a special set of instructions below.
For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #2 I think you should know this section of the pattern uses simple garter stitches to start but will have a little added pattern stitch at the end of the clue.
- You now have a LOT more stitches on your needle after row 2 and I want you to get used to them before we do something extra.
- Also, the simple garter stitches at the start will hold the weight of the piece as it rest on your shoulders (yep, that is a hint) so I did not want to add any stitches that have more stretch than the garter stitch.
For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #2 I think you should know that stitch gauge is still more important than row gauge.
For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #2 I think you should know that I filmed a video to help those of you who have trouble reading patterns. It is available at the bottom of this page 🙂
Lastly, knitters…we all know that the crocheters are going to be done with theirs before we are done with ours and THAT IS OKAY! Knitting might take a bit longer than crochet but that just means we get to enjoy our yarn that much more 🙂 So please don’t get discouraged by their progress at all. Let’s go at our own pace. xoxo
Okay, time for the pattern information.

MEASUREMENTS
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger size(s) the instructions will be written with the larger numbers inside the parentheses.
There is a special set of instructions for knitters making the larger size but need a shorter (petite) option.
To Fit Sizes: S-L (XL-3XL)
Clue #2 and #3: The measurements are listed for each individual size to make it easier for the knitter to know what their size measurements will be.
- S-L Size: 28.75″ [73 cm] wide (folded in half), 24” [61 cm] length
- XL-3XL Size: 37.25″ [94.5 cm] wide (folded in half), 34″ [86.5 cm] length
- Special Shorter (petite) XL-3XL option: 32.75″ [83 cm] wide (folded in half), 24″ [61 cm] length
Gauge: 12 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in clue #1 pattern, CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge. *added note: the Latte Cake yarn has a good amount of stretch, so be sure to account for that stretch when you check your gauge.*
MATERIALS
Yarn: Caron Latte Cakes (8.8 oz cakes, available only at Michaels): 2 (3) balls total for project
Needle: 10/6mm 29” circular needles (or longer to accommodate more stitches in clue #2 and #3)
SPECIAL STITCHES / TECHNIQUES
⭐️Cable Cast-on Method: Place a slipknot on left hand needle and k1, slip new st onto left hand needle; *insert right hand needle between first 2 sts on left hand needle, k1 from this position, leave the first st on left hand needle and slip new st onto left hand needle. Rep from * for desired number of sts.

PATTERN
Body
⭐️Note from Marly: knitters making the larger size who want a shorter piece, the following is for you– I know that there are times as larger ladies we need the extra width but not the length. Because of that, I am letting you know that if you want to make your piece a bit shorter than the sample (sample fits me and I am 5’10”) I’ve written out instructions specifically for you below the standard length instructions. Simply scroll down to the Shorter Length Option for XL-3XL size section if you want to a shorter piece.
If you don’t know if you want or need the shorter size, do this, use a tape measure and measure the distance from 1″ [2.54 cm] on your shoulder, down your arm to your wrist. If that measurement is less than 20″ [51 cm] you should consider doing the shorter option.
