Turkey Trot with Marly Bird 2019 Knitting Clue #1.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your friends and family. Now that the turkey is eaten, the football games have been played and you get to finally sit down and relax, it is time to get started on the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird 2019 Knitting Clue #1.

Turkey Trot Knitting Clue #1

What you should know

Of course this is a Mystery Make Along project (if you want to know more you can click the link) so I am assuming that you have faith in me and my design ability and that is why you are following along. So, thank you for that.  ????

Because I know there are some sizing decisions that will need to be made along the way I will be sure to mention little extras in the pattern I think you should know before proceeding. That way, you are not totally blind to the design.

For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #1 I think you should know there are two sizes to choose from:

  • If you typically wear a S, M, or L then you should follow the instructions for the S-L size. This is the first number outside the parentheses.
  • If you typically wear an XL, 2XL, or 3XL then you should follow the instructions for the XL-3XL size. This is the first number inside the parentheses.
  • It is important to note that in clue #2 and #3 there is a shorter length option for the XL-3XL size but adjustments are not needed for clue #1.

For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #1 I think you should know this section of the pattern is very simple on purpose. After a day with family I figured a very simple stitch pattern that did not require a lot of EXTRA concentration would not go amiss.

For the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird Knitting Clue #1 I think you should know that stitch gauge is more important than row gauge.

Lastly, knitters…we all know that the crocheters are going to be done with theirs before we are done with ours and THAT IS OKAY! Knitting might take a bit longer than crochet but that just means we get to enjoy our yarn that much more 🙂 So please don’t get discouraged by their progress at all. Let’s go at our own pace. xoxo

Okay, time for the pattern information.

PATTERN

Cowl

With long tail cast-on, cast-on 78 (102) stitches

Row 2 (RS): Knit

Row 3 (WS): Knit

Row 4 (RS): Knit

Row 5 (WS): Knit

Row 6 (RS): Knit

Row 7 (WS): Knit

⭐️Note from Marly: You are working in straight garter stitch at this point, if you are not comfortable with simple lace stitches that follow [or just feel too stressed to do them right after a stressful holiday] you can keep all of clue #1 in straight garter stitch. That will look nice on the final product. If you want to do that, you will continue working in straight garter stitch until clue #1 measures 8” [20.5 cm] ending after a WS.

Row 8 (RS): K1, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, k1.

Row 9 (WS): Knit

Row 10 (RS): Knit

Row 11 (WS): Knit

Row 12 (RS): Knit

Row 13 (WS): Knit

Row 14 (RS): Knit

Row 15 (WS): Knit

Row 16 (RS): K1, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, k1.

Repeat rows 9-16 until clue #1 measures 8” [20.5 cm] ending after a row 15 (or a WS if you’re doing just garter stitch)

Now wait for the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird 2019 Knitting Clue #2 instructions to continue 🙂
