Is Lace Yarn Too Hard for Beginner Crocheters?
If this is your first time using lace yarn, I recommend playing around with classic crochet stitches to become comfortable holding the yarn, and more importantly, keeping the height of the stitches you make consistent.
The yarn can be a little tricky at first, but if you take your time to get used to the smaller hook, the thin yarn, and maintain consistent tension you will be a-ok.
Now, specifically speaking about the Bluebonnet Shawl, this pattern is perfect for the beginner, intermediate and advanced crocheter. The body of the shawl is made with single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet so there are not any surprises or new stitches for you to get used to when you’re trying to be familiar with the yarn.
But, the edging does use some different stitches but by the time you get to that point in the pattern you will be MORE THAN COMFORTABLE with the hook and yarn 🙂
Oh, just a quick note, all the instructions are written in US terms.
A Yarn Perfect for an Easy Summer Crochet Shawl
Most summer shawl patterns call for lightweight yarn but it is hard to find anything other than traditional sock yarns, which typically is made with a wool nylon blend. Not ideal for a crocheted shawl to wrap around your shoulders in an room with the air conditioning on full blast (I know you know what I am talking about here!).
This is where the It’s a Wrap yarn is wonderful substitute for those patterns.
Red Heart’s, It’s a Wrap, is the perfect yarn for this or any summer shawl crochet pattern! This lightweight yarn is classified as a 1-super fine yarn and it is made up of 50% cotton and 50% acrylic, making it an ideal choice for warm weather projects like, oh I don’t know, crochet summer shawls *wink.
