Reversible Felted Crochet Purse Free Pattern with Pocket!
As I mentioned last week in my post about my seed stitch crochet purse free pattern, I’ve been looking back at some of my old designs. Did you know that Jill Wright and I used to have a website called The Purse Workshop where we shared tips, tricks, and patterns for how to make purses? This felted crochet purse pattern comes from that collection. Reviewing it again, there’s so much to love about it. The best thing? It’s reversible with a pocket that you can have inside or out!
The Purse Workshop
The Purse Workshop was a collaboration with Jill Wright, my co-author on the book Curvy Crochet. We designed it to show you all of the different ways to make purses. You can sew them, knit them, crochet them, and more. I have a few old crochet purse patterns still up on that website that are worth checking out. (And check out the About Marly page if you want to see some great old photos of me!)
Rosewood Felted Crochet Purse Pattern
The purse I’m drawing your attention to today is the Rosewood. It’s a felted crochet purse pattern. Felting is a great technique for making your crochet a denser, more tightly woven fabric. Many people are intimidated by felting their crochet. However, it’s really not that difficult at all. You crochet the whole bag first. Then you felt it, following the detailed instructions I’ve included with the pattern. Don’t be afraid to try it. You’ve got this! Just remember that you do need to use wool yarn in order to get a felted crochet purse. Other yarns, such as acrylic, won’t felt.
Reversible Crochet Purse with Pocket
I love a good reversible crochet pattern. And it’s actually really rare to find a reversible crochet purse pattern. They simply aren’t usually made to be turned inside out. But why not? It makes for a really fun design feature and there’s absolutely no reason that you can’t do it. More than just reversing the fabric, though, this purse reverses the pocket placement.
I love a pocket in a purse. There’s always an item or two that you want to have easy access to inside of your purse, right? Maybe it’s your cell phone, your car keys or your wallet. Therefore, you put the item in the purse pocket so that you don’t have to go digging around in your purse every time you want that item.
Well, you can put the pocket on the outside of this felted crochet purse for super easy access. Or, if you would rather keep those items a bit safer, you can reverse the purse and the pocket will then be on the inside. I’m proud of this designed and hope that you’ll enjoy it as well!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really felt acrylic yarn for this purse?
Oh gosh, no… you absolutely can’t felt acrylic yarn. It just won’t happen, sweetie! You really need to use wool yarn for felting crochet. Other fibers just don’t have that magical shrinky-dink property.
I’m new to felting, is it super hard?
Honestly… you’ve got this! It sounds a little intimidating, I know, but it’s really not that tricky. You just crochet the whole bag first, then you follow the instructions to felt it. Don’t be afraid to give it a try… it makes for such a cool, dense fabric!
Why is this purse pattern special?
Yes! What’s really neat is that it’s reversible… and it has a pocket that can go on the inside or the outside! How fun is that for a design feature? It’s pretty rare to find a reversible crochet purse pattern out there.
Where did this pattern come from?
So here’s the thing… this pattern is actually an oldie but a goodie! It comes from a website Jill Wright and I used to have called The Purse Workshop. We shared tons of tips and patterns for making purses, and this one is from that collection.
