Learn how to make this wonderful Crochet Blossom hat that only uses 1 ball of Red Heart, With Love Metallic yarn. Because it uses only 1 ball of yarn, this project is not only cute but cheap to make! And it’s a great gift for your loved one, a great addition to your craft fair wares, and a great addition to your own wardrobe.
Making a Crochet Bill:
I am a big fan of slip stitch ribbing for brims of hats or cuffs on sleeve. The elastic nature of the slip stitch fabric makes for a nice fit to almost any project.
First question everybody has when they see this hat is, “what did you add to the bill to make it actually stand out?”. The answer to that is NOTHING! The unique construction of the bill allows it to extend from the forehead as one is intended to do.
If you find that when you work up slip stitch ribbing that you loose count easily, I highly suggest using a stitch marker in the first stitch of every row. That will help you find the stitch every time.
Of course you probably already known that little tip, but did you know that you can do simple shaping in a slip stitch ribbing and create a bill for a hat that actually stands out from the forehead? That’s right! No more cutting cardboard or plastic canvas to fill the bill, all you need to do is work a nice slip stitch ribbing with shaping.
Now, don’t let me lose you with the phrase word ‘shaping’. All that means is you will work 2 slip stitches in one stitch to increase a number and/or work a slip stitch 2 together (or even easier, skip over a slip stitch) to create a decrease. Yes, I’ve done a video to show you how to do it.
