NOTES
- Directions are for the smallest size; changes for larger sizes are in parentheses. When only one number is given then that number applies to all sizes.
- The adult medium size will fit most adults, especially since the project has a generous stretch. If concerned about size, measure one of your favorite hats first and choose a size based on that.
- When working in Fair Isle technique, carry yarn not in use loosely across WS of work but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under color in use on next st or at center point of the sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.
- When a color is finished being used in a section, cut it and carry on. Do not carry colors up the inside of work.
- If you want to be sure you have a safety net as you knit, adding a lifeline to your project every so often will be helpful. Just to make sure you have a point to rip back to if something goes wrong. (video help).

NORTHERN GLEAM KNIT HAT PATTERN
Brim
With color A and smaller circular needles, cast on 84 (90, 96, 102) stitches, place marker then join to work in the round.
Rounds 1-8: *K1, p1; repeat from * to end of round.
Work in 1×1 ribbing for 1 (1, 1.5, 1.5)” [2.5 (2.5, 3.8, 3.8) cm] for a single brim; or 2 (2, 3, 3)” [5 (5, 7.6, 7.6) cm] for a folded over double brim.
Body
Switch to larger needles and begin working the colorwork stitch pattern using the chart (6-stitch repeat).
Knit rounds 1-24 of the chart, then repeat each section as needed until your hat measures approximately:
- 8 (9, 9, 10)” [20.25 (22.75, 22.75, 25.4) cm] from cast-on edge, or to desired height.
Crown Shaping
With the color yarn used most on last round
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: K 0 (1, 0, 1), *K2tog; repeat from * around — 42 (45, 48, 51) sts
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: K 0 (1, 0, 1), *K2tog; repeat from * around — 21 (23, 24, 26) sts
Round 5: Knit
Finishing
Thread the tail into a tapestry needle, insert tapestry needle into each stitch on left hand needle as if to knit and off until the tail has been thread through each stitch.
Pull tight like a drawstring.
Secure tail to the wrong side of the hat.
Weave in all loose ends.
(Optional) Add Pom Pom to top of hat.
(Optional) Add Leather Tag with Leather Rivets
