Crochet Swancho Pattern

Here’s my crochet swancho pattern! I originally designed this as a CAL, and you can read all of the details about it in the original blog post. It explains what a Swancho is, some options you have for personalizing yours, and more. The free pattern is below or you can get the ad-free pattern here.

MEASUREMENTS

TO FIT SIZE

S/M (L/XL, 2X/3X, 4X/5X), the sweater is oversized with 5-10” of ease

Sweater shown is 2X/3X with optional cowl.

Note about size: When picking out your size, make sure you check the finished bust. The sweater is designed to be oversized; just to keep in mind if you are between 2 sizes, you can certainly make it one size smaller to have a tighter fit.

FINISHED BUST MEASUREMENT

44 (51, 59, 66)” [112, 129.5, 150, 167.5 cm] bust circumference.

GAUGE

6 dc groups and 8 rows = 5.5” [14 cm] x 4.375” [11 cm]  CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.  See gauge swatch pattern for directions.

Note about gauge: when working to get gauge, it is better to get stitch gauge vs row gauge as the fabric will stretch with the weight of the swancho (especially the larger sizes).

Also, remember this swancho is oversized and has a lot of wiggle room on the size. Don’t stress yourself out regarding the gauge, if it is off a little either way it will not be the end of the world. You will be able to try on the swancho as you go.

I would say that you should get a fabric you are happy with and is not “sloppy” in an effort to get a larger gauge.

SCHEMATIC

NOTES

  • Sweater is worked from the collar down to the end of the yoke, then split into front/ back/ and sleeves. Front and Back are joined and worked in the round down to the edging.
  • Sweater can be customized with body and sleeve length to your desired amount by crocheting more or less rounds after the split for the front/back/ and sleeves.
  • When moving the marker on turned rounds, you will move the marker to the “new” spot indicated. This spot is always AFTER the post stitches of that round.

Crochet Swancho Video Tutorials

In addition to the written pattern, I’ve provided you with everything you need to know through these video tutorial. The first video is long but there is a lot of information in there. I highly recommend watching it. Just spend an hour and a half with me. The other videos in this pattern are not nearly this long so don’t worry 🙂
