Make-Along Concentration Levels:

Concentration levels are based on how much concentration you need to put into the pattern as you are working it. We have broken them out as the following:

  • “Social” Knitter/Crocheter–This is a knitter/crocheter who might be working on the project at a knit club, watching TV or talking with family and friends while working. These clues are made up of stitches that are easy to remember the repeat and don’t require carrying the pattern with you.
  • “Netflix and Chill” Knitter/Crocheter–This is a knitter/crocheter who might be watching something more detailed that they want to pay attention to but aren’t so involved in what they are doing that they don’t want to keep track of what they are working on. These clues will have slightly more detailed stitch patterns but you would still be able to hold a conversion, with one person, or watch a light TV program.
  • “Smooth Jazz” Knitter/Crocheter–This is a knitter/crocheter who can have some noise in the background but not something that they need to focus on. When you listen to music, think smooth Jazz, you can hear the music but you don’t really need to be listening to the words to know what is going on. I use smooth Jazz because some Heavy Rock might not be the best thing for your nerves! These clues will have stitch patterns that are more beefy than the first two groups of clues and will require some thinking about.
  • “Be Quiet, I’m Knitting/Crocheting” Knitter/Crocheter–This is a knitter/crocheter who will need to have a quite house so that they can count and make sure that they are following the stitch pattern correctly. These clues will have more complicated stitch patterns and will need more counting as you work them. You will need the most focus for these clues.

“Be Quite, I’m Knitting” Knitter Week Two Cowl Clue:

Special Note

Credit: I used this pattern on a cowl in the past and I just love it. It uses this wonderful cable stitch designed by Dorota M. Kowalczyk. Here is a link to her other beautiful cable patterns if you are interested: https://www.ravelry.com/designers/devorgillas-knitting-sometimes
I chose not create extra stitches for this section even though it is a cable and might pull in a bit. On my sample swatch I didn’t have it pull in much so I wasn’t too worried about it.
However, if you find that your work is pulling in too much, go up a needle size for this section OR on Row 1 you could increase 2 sts after the first marker, before the second maker, and after the third marker, before the fourth marker using a M1. This will give you 54 stitches.
Remember, if you choose to do that you will then have to decrease those stitches at the end so you are back to the set 50 sts.

Special Stitches

C2 over 2 left: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to the front, k2 from left hand needle, k2 from cable needle.
C2 over 2 right: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to the back, k2 from left hand needle, k2 from cable needle.
C2 over 2 left P: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to the front, p2 from left hand needle, k2 from cable needle.
C2 over 2 right P: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to the back, k2 from left hand needle, p2 from cable needle.
C2 over 1 left P: slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to the front, p1 from left hand needle, k2 from cable needle.
C2 over 1 right P: slip 1 to cable needle, hold to the back, k2 from left hand needle, p1 from cable needle.

Pattern

Row 1 (RS): Border to marker, slip marker, p2, PM, k2, p4, k2, p4, k2, p4, c2 over 2 left, p4, k2, p4, k2, p4, k2, pm, p2, slip marker, border.
NOTE: This stitch pattern uses 40 stitches. You will notice that I am having you add another marker 2 stitches after the first marker and 2 stitches before the last marker. You will keep these 2 stitches between the markers in reverse stockinette in order to center the overall stitch pattern and maintain the border.
Row 2 (WS): Border to marker, slip marker, k2, slip marker, p2, k4, p2, k4, p2, k4, p4, k4, p2, k4, p2, k4, p2, slip marker, k2, slip marker, border.
