Special Crochet Stitches & Techniques
- Bean Stitch: Yo, insert hook into st indicated, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, insert hook into same stitch, yo, pull up a loop] twice, yo, pull through all 7 loops on hook, ch 1.
11am Play ????
After the event it was pointed out to me that crocheters started to let their gauge get a bit bigger from this play on. I want to mention again that the gauge is 5 hdc per inch! Be very careful and maintain this gauge. If you need to go to a smaller hook to get the gauge then do that. (updated 2.6.19)
Note that even a 1/2 stitch too few can result in a fabric that is close to 3″ larger than it is supposed to be! (updated 2.6.19)
Rnd 1: Working into the back loop only, hdc in each stitch around.
Rnds 2, 3, 4: Working into the 3rd loop (in the back) [see special stitches & techniques], hdc in each stitch around.
Note that when working through the 3rd loop may crocheters have a tendency to let the stitches get too large. Remember to maintain the gauge of 5 hdc per inch! (updated 2.6.19)
Rnd 5: Working through both loops, * bean stitch [see special stitches], skip 1 hdc, repeat from * around.
Note that when you do the bean stitch round you need to keep the stitches nice and snug. Be weary of letting the stitches get too large. (updated 2.6.19)
Rnd 6: Working through both loops, * hdc in the bean stitch, hdc in ch-1 space; repeat from * around.
Note to remind you to check gauge. Can you tell this is important? In this one play I’ve mentioned it 4 times. (updated 2.6.19)
