Double Crochet vs. Linked Double Crochet:
What is the difference between a double crochet and a linked double crochet? When working a linked double crochet you are connecting the two stitches together. Linking your double crochet stitches together makes a dense fabric.
Making the linked double crochet is done by eliminating the traditional yarn over. Rather than doing a yarn over to start your stitch you will go through the bar that was created the stitch before.
Swatching the two stitches together really shows you the difference. The stitches on the top of my swatch are the linked double crochet. You can see that they are slightly pulled in, since they don’t have the space between the stitches. Also notice that there is a more defined right side and wrong side for the linked double crochet.
These stitches are not quite interchangeable. It will defiantly make a difference in the look of the finished piece using one over the other, and will impact your gauge.

Wherever a dense fabric would be desired. Although it looks like it will use a lot more yarn than regular double crochet, I’ve been looking for a dense fabric.
