Knitting Expert Candace Eisner Strick learned to knit at the tender age of three! Her mother taught her to knit and play piano. While music has always been a part of her life, knitting has been the thing she loved.
Deciding she wanted to write a book about Harrisville designs, she approached them and heard the owner ‘Give Candace any yarn she wants’! She picked one of every color… Well, who wouldn’t? She created designs and put together ideas and began approaching publishers until finally Down East said they would publish her book for her. That first bookย Sweaters from a New England Farm https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/sweaters-from-a-new-england-villageย Next cameย Sweaters from New England Sheep Farmsย … she has become known for her fearless designs, which include cables, lacework, steeks. Socks fit into her ย talents easily with fun because of the beautiful colorways, self-striping and techniques. Thus Strick-ly Socksย which she convinced her husband to help her with to become her first self-published book. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/strick-ly-socks
Think Ouside the Sox is a great collections of socks that was compiled by XRX (Knitters Universe Magazine) and Candace has a pattern included. ย https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/think-outside-the-sox
Candace has a YouTube channel and it can be helpful resource for techniques when knitting socks: https://www.youtube.com/user/Strickwearย and she also has her own websiteย https://www.strickwear.com/
Once she got rolling with designs and writing books, she got hold of a booklet from a Stitches Event, admired all the teachers and decided she wanted to be one of those people. ย This is the link to her upcoming classes at Stitches East in October. ย https://www.knittinguniverse.com/teacher/teacher_details/view/72/8029/Candace_Eisner_Strick/

What an unusual show today! Candace sounds like a fun person with a parrot on her shoulder. I would be very excited to win her sock book. Thanks for your giveaways.
This parrot chose her special person well…artistic and eloquent, a visionary! Thanks Marly and Candace! Another inspiring show!
I love the picture of Candace and her parrot! Can’t wait to check out her sock designs! Socks are my favorite things to knit.
I would love to win sock book, does it have a parrot on it?
A parrot on my shoulder and socks on my needles–heaven!!
I love the parrot story. I always wanted a dog that would follow me everywhere, but a bird would do just as well, and it’s more unique.
I just want to say I love listening to your podcast Marly! You have a wonderful laugh ๐ and you are a superb interviewer. I love listening to how the guests you have on started on their path – it is so inspiring that they jump right in, parrots and all! It was also a pleasure listening to you talk about what you are up to yourself. Looking forward to the new YouTube channel. Thanks for all your effort and enthusiasm!
I’ve never had a parrot but I have had several budgerigars and cockatiels. Great show, widh I was flexible enough to do the splits!
I love the photo of Candace and her parrot! One of my best classes at Stitches West was with Candace, she is such a wonderful teacher. I haven’t attempted to knit socks yet but would love to learn and I think Candace’s book would be a great place to start.
My favorite color is the green color of the feathers on the top of your parrot. It’s such a bright and cheery color. I enjoyed hearing your story and couldn’t wait to get home and see about some of your books.
I think it would be great if I had someone who could parrot my knitting instructions so I wouldn’t need to look at my patterns. ๐
I have a cockatiel, but a parrot would be pretty cool too.
We used to live in South America and were blessed to see parrots in their natural habitat! Wonder what socks for her parrot might look like? LOL!
You are so quirky, with your parrot and your splits!! Thanks for the great podcast!!
Love to have my own parrot, they are smart and beautiful.
Great show! Parrots are amazing.
Loved hearing from Candace. She is a great teacher and lovely lady I’ve had a chance to meet her at several Stitches events. Candace, please bring your parrot next time! And Marly, you have a warm and happy laugh and the friendliest voice. Don’t listen to the curmudgeons!
Knitted socks with a parrot applique would be adorable for a child.
I love parrots. My parrot is a Senegal parrot. We bought her for me, but she chose my husband. Figures!! But she obviously has great taste as he is wonderful.
I will be looking to see what classes Candace is teaching at Stitches Midwest 2015 as I think I would love to take a class from her!
