Making a Knit Lace Scarf

Working the Greyson Lace Knit Scarf you will see that it is a beginner lace pattern broken up by sections of garter stitch. The lace pattern used for this scarf makes it super easy to recognize mistakes, another reason this is great for beginners.

Starting your project I used the long tail cast on method. If you haven’t worked with this cast on before you can watch one of my other video tutorials to learn how.

Throughout this scarf you will see a basic chevron shape take form. To create this shape you will need to increase and decrease to get your peaks and valleys. Stitch markers are essential for keeping track of where you need to do special stitches and this is a great time to use them. Learn how to do this within your lace knitting in my video tutorial.

PRO TIP: Burry the ends of your yarn, this is a more secure way to finish your project. You will have quite a few ends with this lace knit scarf because you are changing color with each repeat. I prefer to burry them as I finish each section so that I don’t have them all at the end. Learn my method for burring ends with a video from my friend Anne Berk.

The image is a visual collage designed for Facebook, showcasing the "Greyson Waves Lace Scarf" in a series of elegant drapes on a mannequin. The scarf is knitted in a beautiful wave pattern, featuring harmonious shades of navy, grey, and white. The central text emphasizes "Greyson Waves Lace Scarf" in a sophisticated script, followed by "FREE KNITTING PATTERN," indicating that this intricate design is available at no cost to the knitter. The presentation of the scarf in various angles highlights the delicate lacework and the fluidity of the waves, inviting viewers to engage with the pattern. Knitting Lace:

When you are a beginner knitter knitting can be intimidating because your stitches are always live. Working up a pattern, particularly lace, there is always a chance that you might make a mistake.

In crochet it is easy to rip out your work and have the correct stitch remain ready for you. With knitting, as you rip out, you are leaving the stitch live off the needle.

Start off by learning what a life line is for your knitting and when to you use it. Once you understand what a life line is you can learn 3 ways to add a life line to knitting. Always use a life line with lace knitting so you don’t have to worry about loosing your spot if you make a mistake.

I have never been so frustrated in my life! I enjoy your video’s, but trying to get to this pattern is impossible! It is the 12th. Free after all and my time is also precious.

  3. Callie B says:

Always set up a spreadsheet for a pattern so it is easier to follow (for me). Anyway, when doing the sheet for the Greyson Scarf it looks to me like a yo was omitted from just after the center rib in R7 of the body. It is on the chart but wanted to confirm that this is truly the case. Thank you, Callie

    • Marly Bird says:

Hi Callie-There was a change in the pattern that wasn’t updated on the last round of edits. It has since been edited and what you find in the download should now be correct. Sorry about the issues.

  4. Connie Clinton says:

I EVEN WENT TO RAVELRY AND FOUND A FREE PATTERN LINK TO PRINT AND IT BROUGHT ME RIGHT BACK TO YOUR WEBSITE. SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING FOR ME ON SEVERAL OF YOUR PATTERNS. WHEN YOU GO THROUGH YOUR SPONSOR THE LINK TO PRINTABLE PATTERN WORKS. IT DOES NOT ON YOUR WEBSITE. REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR HELP. THANKS, CONNIE CLINTON
