Knit For Food Knit-a-thon 2022

What if you could spend an entire day knitting and it would help bring food to people in need? That’s the goal of Knit For Food Knit-a-thon 2022. This virtual event happens 2/12/22 from 10 – 10. It includes all kinds of fun things for you to watch and do online while raising money for several different good causes. If this interests you, then read on!

What Is The Knit for Food Knit-a-thon?

The Knit for Food Knit-a-thon is a fundraiser that uses knitting in community to provide funds to four different organizations that feed people in need. People sign up and get sponsors to support them in knitting all day. If you raise at least $100 in funding, then you can participate in the Zoom taking place on 2/12/22.

What Happens During the Zoom?

First, you get the opportunity to knit all day in community. There’s a lot more than that, however. They’ve created twelve hours of interesting programming. You’ll find breakout rooms where you can go knit and chat with smaller groups of people. You’ll also find opportunities to:

  • Do some yoga and stretching
  • Learn about knitting ergonomics
  • Listen to speakers from the knitting world
  • Listen to music

Plus, representatives from each of the four organizations will come to speak about the work that they do.

Do I Have to Attend the Zoom?

Of course not. You can participate in the fundraiser by asking people to support you in your day-long knitting adventure to raise money for these organizations. You can then opt to knit alone or with others locally. Do what works for you. However, if you’re able to get $100 or more in sponsorship then you’re able to participate in the Zoom, and a lot of fun things are obviously happening there. You might also tune in for some of it and not all of it. It’s all up to you.

Organizations Supported by Knit for Food Knit-a-thon

All of the funds raised from the Knit for food Knit-a-thon 2022 will be evenly divided between the following four organizations:

  • Feeding America
  • World Central Kitchen
  • No Kid Hungry
  • Meals on Wheels

How Much Are Knitters Raising to Provide Food to Those In Need?

The more people who participate in the Knit-a-thon, the more money knitters will raise for donation. As of right now, the donation page shows a goal of $200,000. Therefore, each organization would receive about $50,000. And guess what? Knitters have already raised over $140,000 for the event!

Patty Lyons, who plans to finish brioche projects for her next class during her knitting day, has raised over $7000!

This is the second annual Knit For Food Knit-a-thon. Last year, they raised over $265,000!

How Can I Help?

You can join the knit-a-thon! Like a marathon or any similar event, you ask people to pledge to support you. You set a goal and gather as many pledges as you can towards that goal. Then you knit all day on 2/12/22.

Alternatively, you can donate to any of the team members who are raising money for the event. In other words, you can choose to pledge to someone else who is participating in the knit-a-thon. Laura Nelkin launched this event. You can support her here. You can see the answers to FAQ here.
