20 dc by 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] x 4” [10 cm]; use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

SPECIAL STITCHES 

4 Double Crochet Cluster (4 dc-cl): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in same st 4 times total, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook. 

Double Crochet 3 Together (Dc3tog): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in next 2 sts, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. 

Double Crochet 2 Together (Dc2tog): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in next st, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES

  • Gauge is not critical in this project. Lace crochet easily can grow depending on how you make your chains.  If your project measures larger, it will still be a beautiful project.  If Play 4 is between 14-16” in width the final shawl will be great!
  • Project is continued on the last row of Play 3 still working on the bias.  You will increase at the beginning of the RS rows and decrease at the end of the WS rows, which will not change your stitch count.

Continue working on last row of Play 3

Row 1: (RS) Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in first st, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc3tog over last 3 sts, turn. – 125 dc. 

Row 2: Ch 2, skip first st, dc2tog over next 2 sts, dc in each st across to tch, 3 dc in top of tch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in first dc, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc3tog over last 3 sts, turn. 

Row 4: Ch 2, skip first st, dc2tog over next 2 sts, dc in each st across to tch, 3 dc in top of tch, turn.

Row 5: Ch 5 (counts as dtr), y-st in first st, *x-st over next 3 sts; repeat from * across to last 4 sts, end x-st over last 4 sts,  turn- 40 x-sts + 1 end x-st + 1 y-st

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog over first st and ch-1 sp, sc in same ch-1 sp, *sc between next x-st, 2 sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, sc in dtr, 2 sc in top of tch, turn. 

Rows 7-8: Repeat Rows 5-6

Row 9: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in first st, ch 2, skip next st, *4 dc-cl in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts; repeat from * across to last 3 sts, dc3tog over last 3 sts, turn.

Row 10: Ch 1, sc2tog over first st and ch-2 sp, *sc in next 2 dc, 2 sc in next 2 ch-2 sps (skip dc-cl); repeat from * across to last 2 sts, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc in top of tch, turn.

Rows 11-16: Repeat Rows 5-10

Rows 17-20: Repeat Rows 5-8

Rows 21-24: Repeat Rows 1-4

Fasten off, weave in ends
