Finished Measurements

PLAY 3 is 14” [35.5 cm] wide 

Gauge 

20 dc by 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] x 4” [10 cm]; use any size hook to obtain the gauge. 

5 stitch repeats in Play 3 stitch pattern = 3” [7.5 cm]

WeCrochet Comfy Fingering Weight (75% Pima Cotton/ 25% Acrylic, 218 yds / 200 m, 1.75 oz/ 50 g, CYCA# 1 sock/ super fine): #28019 Honey, 10 balls

SPECIAL STITCHES 

2 Double Crochet Cluster (2 dc-cl): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in same st, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. 

Double Crochet 3 Together (Dc3tog): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in next 2 sts, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. 

Double Crochet 2 Together (Dc2tog): *Yarn over hook, insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * in next st, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES

  • Gauge is not critical in this project. Lace crochet easily can grow depending on how you make your chains.  If your project measures larger, it will still be a beautiful project.  If Play 3 is between 14-16” in width the final shawl will be great!
  • Project is continued on the last row of Play 2 still working on the bias.  You will increase at the beginning of the RS rows and decrease at the end of the WS rows, which will not change your stitch count.

Row 1: (RS) Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in first st, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc3tog over last 3 sts, turn. – 125 dc. 

Row 2: Ch 2, skip first st, dc2tog over next 2 sts, dc in each st across to tch, 3 dc in top of tch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in first dc, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc3tog over last 3 sts, turn. 

Row 4: Ch 2, skip first st, dc2tog over next 2 sts, dc in each st across to tch, 3 dc in top of tch, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first st, ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made (working in front loop and a vertical strand), *dc2tog over next 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made, skip 1 dc; repeat from * across to last 4 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc twice,  turn- 41 clusters 

Row 6: Ch 3 (does not count as a st), skip first st, dc in next st, *2 dc in top of dc2tog, ch 1; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, 2 dc in next dc, 2 dc in top of tch, turn. 

Row 7: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 dc in first st, ch 3, 2dc-cl in top of st just made, skip 1 dc, *dc2tog over next 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made, skip ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to last 3 dc, dc in last dc, turn. 

Row 8: Ch 3 (does not count as a st), *2 dc in top of dc2tog, ch 1; repeat from * across to last 3 sts, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, 2 dc in top of tch, turn. 

Row 9: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 dc in first st, dc2tog over first and second st,, *ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made, skip ch-1 sp, dc2tog over next 2 dc ; repeat from * across to last ch-1 sp, dc3tog over last ch-1 sp and last 2 dc, turn.

Row 10: Ch 3 (does not count as a st), dc in next dc2tog, ch 1, *2 dc in top of dc2tog, ch 1; repeat from * across to last 3 sts, 3 dc in top of tch, turn. 

Row 11: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in first st, ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made, *dc2tog over next 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc-cl in top of st just made, skip ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to last 4 sts (3 dc + ch-1 sp), dc2tog over next 2 dc, dc2tog over last ch-1 sp and last dc, turn.
