Cabled Cormo Knit Vest by Marly Bird

Cabled Cormo Vest Knit Pattern By Marly Bird

The Cabled Cormo vest is lovely both coming and going. It blends contemporary styling with traditional stitch motifs. The vest combines a double seed stitch texture, a low-cut front with a wide collar of rippling cables and a panel down the back of honeycomb bordered on either side by simple mirrored cables. The intimate blend of cormo and yak yarn by Bijou Basin Ranch gives an added shadow and dimension to this high-relief stitch work. The Cabled Cormo is Snug and Sexy!

Gauge is Important:

As in all of the other garments that I make, I highly suggest making a hanging gauge swatch before you get started. This is important to see how gravity will alter the size of your cardigan after wearing it. Starting with a swatch will also save you the headache of making the wrong size before you even start. To make a hanging gauge swatch I start by making a swatch of the stitch pattern that is at least 6 inches square. Then I hang the swatch to a hanger or cloths line and add additional cloths pins to the bottom to simulate gravity. Take a before and after measurement of your swatch to see what happens to it.

Cabled Cormo Materials:

  • Yarn: Bijou Spun “Bijou Bliss”, 50/50 Yak / Cormo; 150 yards (137 m); 2 oz (56 grams); CYCA size 4 worsted: cream, 4 (5, 6, 7, 8) hanks.
  • Needles: Size US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 24″ or longer; or size to obtain correct gauge
  • Notions: Stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle, three 1” buttons, matching sewing thread, sewing needle.
